Made for this suburb

Blinds that understand
how Rivonia is built.

Rivonia is complex country. Townhouses, clusters and duplexes off Rivonia Boulevard and the Witkoppen side, most of them built to a repeating window schedule — and every one of them with a set of rules about what may show from the street.

We measure and fit inside those constraints every week, so the specification starts there rather than being retro-fitted to it afterwards.

The range

What we make and fit

Everything here is made to order for your exact opening — no off-the-shelf sizes cut down to fit. If you are not sure which one belongs in which room, that is exactly what the free measure is for.

Blockout roller blinds

One flat panel of fabric on a tube. Full darkness for a west-facing bedroom, and a clean single line from the street.

Sunscreen roller blinds

Mesh fabric that cuts glare and heat while you keep the view of the courtyard or the complex lawn.

Alternating sheer and solid bands on one roller — privacy or light from the same blind. Made for street-facing lounges.

Cellular / honeycomb blinds

Honeycomb cells trap air against the glass — the quiet insulator for a cold highveld bedroom or a hot afternoon window.

Motorisation

A motor in the tube instead of a chain: remote, wall switch, app or a timer that drops the west blinds at four o’clock without anyone being home. The right answer for a high stairwell window, a very wide blind, or a child’s room where you want no cords at all — and many existing blinds can be motorised without replacing them.

Blind repairs

Cords fraying, a tilt mechanism that has given up, headrails loose after a repaint or a move, slats bent by a window that slammed. We restring, refit and replace parts where the mechanism allows — and where a repair is not worth your money, we will say so and quote a replacement instead.

Room by room

Three rooms, three
different problems.

A townhouse is rarely one job. The bedroom wants darkness, the stoep wants shade it can live with, and the living room wants light without the whole street looking in.

The Rivonia
Window Schedule

We wrote down what the Highveld sun actually does to a house in this suburb — elevation by elevation, season by season — and what we would fit on each opening, including where each option is the wrong answer. It is the same document our consultant works from on a measure.

  • The light here, with the numbers. Why an 87° summer sun and a 40° winter sun change what belongs on your north glass and your west glass.
  • Eight products, and the catch with each. Where a roller beats a day/night blind, and where indoor fabric cannot win at all.
  • The scheme rules, in plain terms. What needs the trustees in writing before anything goes outside the glass.
  • Sources at the foot. Every climate, geography and legal claim links to where it came from.

Why Rivonia is different

One window schedule,
repeated all the way
through the unit.

Most of Rivonia is complex living, and complexes are built from a drawing. The same bedroom window appears in unit after unit; the same slider opens onto the same courtyard. That is genuinely good news for you: one visit measures the whole unit, the sizes repeat, and the job comes back as a coordinated set rather than eleven separate decisions.

It also means the outside matters. Body corporates care about what shows from the street, so we specify a uniform backing colour and keep the headbox line consistent across the elevation. Neighbours who see the result often book the same visit — and multiple units measured together are quicker for everyone.

Then there is the honest local problem. Rivonia’s cluster stock puts a lot of bedrooms on the west, usually with nothing shading them: no verandah, no big tree, a boundary wall a few metres away. From about three o’clock that glass turns into a heater. Blockout roller blinds or aluminium venetians fix the glare and the privacy indoors; if the room genuinely bakes, stopping the sun outside the glass with a roller shutter or a zip screen does far more than any indoor fabric can.

Rivonia and the

We keep the working radius tight on purpose — it is what makes a same-week measure realistic and a quick return visit possible if something needs adjusting.

Good to know

Questions we get
most weeks

Honest answers, including the ones where the honest answer is “it depends”.

Our body corporate has rules about what shows from outside. Can you work with that?

Yes, and it is worth raising on the first visit. A uniform backing colour and a consistent headbox line across the elevation is standard practice for us in complexes. If your rules are written down, hand them to the consultant on the measure and we will specify to them rather than guess.

Can you do several units in the same complex at once?

Happily. Repeating window schedules make multi-unit work efficient, and neighbours regularly combine measures onto one visit. Mention it when we call so we can plan the day around it.

What actually fixes a west-facing bedroom?

Indoors, blockout roller blinds or aluminium venetians will handle the glare and the privacy, and take the edge off the heat. But the honest answer is that fabric on the inside is fighting a battle that has already been lost at the glass. If the room truly bakes, stopping the sun outside — a roller shutter or a zip screen — does far more. The consultant will tell you which one your room needs.

Do you charge for the measure or the quote?

No. The in-home measure and the written quote are free and carry no obligation. You are choosing something you will look at every day for years — you should be allowed to think about it.

How long does it take?

Everything is made to order, so the lead time depends on the product and the fabric you choose. Your written quote states the timing for your specific order. We would rather quote an accurate date than an optimistic one.

Are the blinds safe around small children?

Every corded or chained blind we fit gets a wall tensioner as standard, which keeps the loop under tension and out of reach. For a nursery we will always show you cordless and motorised options too — a motorised blind has no cord at all, which is as safe as it gets.

Can you repair blinds that are already up?

Yes — restringing, tilt mechanisms, brackets, refits after painting or a move. Bring us the problem and we will tell you whether it is worth repairing. If it is not, we will say so rather than take the money.
